Shelter Island #1

Size of Tent Pads: 10x10 8x8

Distance to Office/Boat Landing: 4 ½ Miles to office, 3 ½ miles to Haines landing

GPS Coordinates: 44o 56’ 03.50” N

                                70o 50’ 37.38” W

Shoreline: Shale

Boat Access: Aim to the right of the site sign and watch for rocks about 20 feet off shore

Description: This is a small wooded site on the western side of Shelter Island.  The site sits atop a small hill within one of the many protected coves on the ¾ mile island.  The sites location provides a view of Wildwood Cove and a breeze just strong enough to get rid of the bugs. Probably not the greatest place for kids, but definitely the place to be if you want to get away from it all since there is zero civilization visible from the site.

Distance to Office/Boat Landing: 4 1/4 Miles to office, 4 miles to Haines landing

GPS Coordinates: 44o 56’ 03.89” N

Boat Access: Approach from the Wildwood Cove side.  Stay halfway between Shelter and the small island.  Once you see the site, watch for rocks and head for the sign, very shallow.

Description: This site is a private, wooded site on the north side of Shelter Island.  The site affords views of Echo Point and some of the north and east shore of the lake.  Located in an area navigable only by unmarked channels, you’re unlikely to be bothered by any boat traffic.  This is truly a nice place for peace and quiet.
